Promoting Health at School

A comprehensive school-health program is not something that can be applied to all students. It must be created and implemented locally with the help of committed resources. The WSCC Model encourages collaboration between school stakeholders including parents, health professionals, students, and other family members. A healthy learning environment can be a key component of a strong school-based health program. In addition, it should be safe and conducive to physical and mental well-being. The WSCC Model emphasizes prevention and early identification of illnesses and injuries, as well as an assessment of effectiveness.

The WSCC is the most widely used model for school and community health. It is a great fit for a variety reasons. The WSCC places the needs of students at the center and highlights the role of community support for schools. It emphasizes how academic achievement can impact health and promotes school policies that are evidence-based. SHI from the AFHK also contains cross-cutting questions that aim to support policies and practices related to multiple health topics.

Although schools cannot solve all the nation's health problems, they can coordinate efforts from many sectors to improve the health and well-being for young people. This effort must include parents, youth-serving organizations and health care professionals. Although there is a list that has been approved for school health programs, the public lacks awareness. The goal of a school-based health care program should be to improve the lives of young people and their communities by reducing the health and educational costs.

The SHI guide provides detailed information about school health, identifies strengths/weaknesses, and sets goals and areas of improvement. The SHI report summarizes all responses and makes suggestions for improvement. Schools can become more successful in creating a healthy and inclusive environment for staff and students by creating a comprehensive SHI. This guide can be used to help schools develop a culture that promotes health and better outcomes for students and staff.

A comprehensive school health program focuses on health and wellness among students. It is focused on six primary behaviors that influence the health and wellbeing of young people. It should address both physical and mental health as well as nutrition and foodservice. This accounts for about two-thirds (or more) of all deaths and diseases among young people. These services should be provided alongside family involvement. Parents and staff should therefore be involved in all aspects of school health care.

FAQ

Why does our weight change with age

How do I know if my bodyweight changes?

Weight loss happens when there is less muscle mass and more fat. This means that daily energy needs must be greater than the calories consumed. The most common cause of weight loss is decreased activity levels. Others include pregnancy, hormonal imbalances or certain medications. If there is more body fat than muscle mass, then weight gain can occur. It occurs when people eat more calories than what they use in a given day. It can be caused by overeating or increased physical activity as well hormonal changes.

The main reason why our bodies lose weight is because we consume fewer calories than we burn. When we exercise regularly, we increase our metabolism rate which burns off more calories throughout the day. This does not necessarily mean that we will get thinner. What is more important is whether or not our body is losing or gaining weight. If we're burning more calories than we're consuming then we're going to lose weight. But if we're consuming more calories than we're burning, then we're actually storing them as fat.

As we get older, our movement speed slows down and so we move less. We also tend have less food to eat than when our children were young. This is why we tend to gain weight. On the flip side, we tend to have more muscle mass so we look bigger than we really are.

It's not possible to measure how much weight your body has lost without weighing yourself every week. There are many methods to measure your weight. You can measure your waist, hips and thighs as well as your arms. Some people prefer using bathroom scales and others prefer tape measure.

To track your progress, weigh yourself once a week. Measure your waistline once per month. To see how far you have come, you can take photos of yourself every few month.

You can also find out how much you weigh by looking up your height and weight online. If you're tall at 5'10", and weigh 180lbs, your weight would be 180.

What is the difference of fat and sugar?

Fat is an energy source that comes directly from food. Sugar is a sweet substance that can be found naturally in fruits or vegetables. Both fats (and sugars) have the same calories. But fats are twice as calories as sugars.

The body stores fats and they can lead to obesity. They cause cholesterol buildup which can lead to strokes and heart attacks.

Sugars are quickly absorbed by the body and provide instant energy. This causes blood glucose levels rise. High blood glucose levels can pose a danger because they increase the chance of developing type II Diabetes.

Exercise: Is it good or bad for immunity?

Exercise is good to your immune system. Exercise increases white blood cell production, which helps fight off infection. Your body also eliminates toxins. Exercise can help prevent heart disease and cancer. It also reduces stress levels.

Exercising too often can cause your immune system to be weaker. Your muscles can become sore if you exercise too much. This can cause inflammation and swelling. Your body will then produce more antibodies in order to fight infections. These extra antibodies can lead to allergies or autoimmune disorders.

So, don't overdo it!

What's the difference between a virus & a bacterium?

A virus is a microscopic organism which cannot reproduce outside of its host cell. A bacterium, a single-celled organism, reproduces by splitting into two. Viruses have a very small size (about 20 nanometers), while bacteria is larger (up to one micron).

Viruses spread easily through contact with infected bodily tissues, such as saliva and urine, semen, vaginal secretions or pus. Bacteria can be spread by direct contact with infected objects and surfaces.

Viruses can get into our bodies through cuts and scrapes on the skin, bites, and other injuries. They can also be transmitted through the eyes, nose, mouth, ears, rectum, and anus.

Bacteria can get into our bodies through cuts, scrapes and burns, insect bites, or other skin breaks. They can also enter our bodies from food, water, soil, dust, and animals.

Both bacteria and viruses cause illness. But viruses do not have the ability to multiply within their hosts. Viral infections can only cause diseases in living cells.

Bacteria can cause illness by multiplying in the body. They can spread to other parts of our bodies. Antibiotics are needed to eliminate them.

What is the problem?

BMI stands for Body Mass Index. This is a measure of body fat that is calculated based on height or weight. The following formula can be used to calculate BMI.

Weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared.

The result is expressed using a number from 0 through 25. A score greater than 18.5 is considered overweight. A score greater than 23 is considered obese.

A person who weighs 100 kilograms and is 1.75m tall will have an BMI of 22.

Some people think that they are lucky because their jobs allow them to go to gym regularly or they have some friends who help them to keep fit. However, those people are really lucky. Even though it may look easy, walking requires focus and concentration. Your brain needs to keep your eyes on the road and focus on breathing slow and deep. Walking for 30 minutes at a steady pace can help you burn between 100 to 150 calories. Start slowly and increase your pace gradually. To avoid injuries, stretch after exercising.
  5. Be positive - Positive thinking is essential for mental health. When we think positively, we create a happy environment inside ourselves. Negative thoughts cause anxiety and drain our energy. Keep your motivation high by focusing on the things you want to do. You don't have to take on all of the new tasks at once. Break them down into smaller tasks. Do not be discouraged if you fail, just get up and try again.
  6. Learn to say No. We are often so busy that our attention is not focused on the important things we are doing. It is important to learn to say No when you need to. However, saying "no", does not necessarily mean you are rude. You are simply saying "no" to something. You can always find other ways to complete the job later. Try to set boundaries. You can ask someone to help you. Delegate the work to someone else.

Don't eat too much oily or heavy foods as they can increase cholesterol levels. Three meals and two snacks are a good rule of thumb. Aim to consume 2000-2500 calories each day.
  8. Meditate - Meditation can reduce stress and anxiety. The best way to let your mind relax is to just sit still, with your eyes closed. This exercise will give your mind clarity, which is very important in making decisions. Practicing meditation regularly will make you calmer and happier.
  9. Do not skip breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of each day. Skipping breakfast may lead to overeating during lunchtime. You don't have to wait until noon to enjoy a healthy breakfast. Eating breakfast increases your energy level and helps you to control your hunger.
